Software Engineer

B&W Tek, a Metrohm group company, is an advanced mobile spectroscopic instrumentation leader, developing and manufacturing state-of-the-art analytical devices, including portable and handheld Raman analyzers. We serve application solutions for the pharmaceutical, biomedical, physical, chemical, and research communities. Originally established as a producer of green lasers in 1997, we’ve grown into an industry-leading, total solutions provider; coupling our core technologies with custom design and manufacturing capabilities. With the fast growth of company, we have an immediate vacancy for a full-time software engineer position.


Job Objectives:


Responsible for instrumental software design and development for portable and handheld spectroscopic instruments including but not limited to Raman, LIBS and others.

Role and Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop instrumental software on Linux, and Android and/or Windows platform for portable spectrometer instrument, handheld Raman, LIBS instrument and others. Develop instrumental software on Linux, and Android and/or Windows platform for portable spectrometer instrument, handheld Raman, LIBS instrument and others.
  • Develop test program on Linux, or Android, and/or Windows platform for portable spectrometer instrument, handheld Raman, LIBS instrument and others.
  • Document the instrumental software and the test software using flow chart and test support document.
  • Maintain/modify existing instrumental software architecture based on customer requirement.
  • Collaboration with entire software team for product enhancement and new product.
  • Collaboration with the hardware developing team for product enhancement and new product.

Mechanical Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops mechanical and optomechanical products by studying system requirements. Evaluates products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes and documentations.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 plus years hand-on experiences in mechanical design with strong analytical skills. Proficient in Solid Works is a must
  • Experience with metals and specialty materials manufacturing. Experience with injection molding is a plus
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design a plus.
  • Initiative, teamwork and good communication skills.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites for support or other Metrohm facilities for collaborative work.

Manufacturing Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform instrument test
  • Set up test protocol with help from Engineering
  • Draft test procedure and SOP
  • Train test technician
  • Conduct instrumentation related performance/application experiments
  • Conduct tests relating to customer feedback
  • Prepare documentation relating to test result, experiments reports, findings and improvement suggestion
  • Perform measurements involving customer samples
  • Sets up standard test apparatus or contrive test equipment and circuitry and conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production products
  • Record test/alignment procedures and results, defects, repair history, numerical and graphical data
  • Develop and implement optimal, cost effective test procedure and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Must be proactive in resolving instrument issues before they become chronic by determining a root cause and course of action
  • Lead improvement projects that focus on defect reduction.
  • Train manufacturing staff regarding workmanship and assembly and test method standards.
  • Assess RMA returns and provide feedback
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis as required to address quality complaints or reliability incidents
  • Provide corrective and preventive actions.
  • Notify Production and Engineering Departments when returned product contains quality problems or other manufacturing defectives. Notify finished goods suppliers of same issues for their products.
  • Create responses to special correspondence and handle special assignments and problems such as responses to complex RMAs or product application problems
  • Manage and troubleshoot complex technical issues with hardware, firmware and software
  • Make decisions and solve problems – Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Hands on experience with analytical instrumentation and procedures including spectrophotometry and etc.
