Discover-It-Yourself

If You Build It, They Will Come

In Raman spectroscopy, “They” are your answers, waiting to be revealed with the right configuration. DIY kits put you in control, letting you assemble solutions from modular components that you require.

The result: a system tailored to your application, delivering precise, reliable data without the constraints of one-size-fits-all instruments.

Building Modular Raman Systems

A modular Raman system combines three core components: laser, spectrometer, and probe, to match your exact application.

  1. Laser sets wavelength and signal quality.
  2. Spectrometer controls resolution and sensitivity.
  3. Probe enables how and where you measure.

For RMID in pharmaceutical analysis, pair a 785 nm laser, high-resolution spectrometer, and fiber-optic probe for non-destructive testing through packaging. Need more later? Swap or add components, no full system replacement required. Modular design keeps your system flexible, efficient, and built around your data—not the other way around.

Measuring made simple.

DIY Raman Kits provide lab-quality measurements at a lower entry cost, ideal for first-time Raman users, budget-limited purchases, and Corporate R&D trials. Portable breadboard-based assembly also makes it easy to move into test areas (e.g., fume hoods). Start with an Entry or Professional level kit for proof-of-concept, then move up to Research Grade components as needed for the ultimate performance.

Understanding Raman.

Students can see and understand how the building blocks (laser, fiber optics, probe, spectrometer) are integrated into a Raman analyzer through hands-on assembly and experiments, turning a “black box” into a learning platform. Ideal for capstone projects and lab courses focused on instrumentation, spectroscopy, and experimental methods.

See more in every sample.

Raman spectroscopy reveals chemical and structural insights that other techniques often miss, giving you a deeper understanding of your materials. From precise quantitative measurements to uncovering new compounds and behaviors in research, Raman opens the door to both reliable analysis and discovery. With Metrohm’s DIY kits, you can access these capabilities in a flexible, customizable system designed to fit your specific application and workflow.
